About ETI
The Emerging Technology Initiative is the technology assessment and analysis arm of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. Through ETI, we seek to provide reliable, comprehensive and insightful reporting on emerging technology. Using our experience in academia, government and private industry, ETI provides snapshots of the newest technologies from startup companies and research institutions, and insightful contextual analyses of technology trends and environments.
Background
The initiative was launched in Fall 2008 with the intention of bridging the wide information gap separating emerging technology producers from the buyers of technology in order to promote greater economic security for the United States and the world. We believe that as more professionals in the government and private sector become aware of innovations and trends from the startup and research space, the more likely they will be to incorporate inventive solutions to increase productivity, efficiency and security. Ultimately, creating widespread exposure for and awareness of emerging technologies can help create value even in current economic conditions.

Tech Highlights
Tech Highlights are standardized and up-to-date profiles of emerging technologies ranging from idea conception at a research level to startup companies beginning commercial-scale manufacturing and sales. They are divided into ideas - technologies which are still in research stages - and products - technologies commercially available for sale or licensing. Tech Highlights are also divided into five technology sectors, Advanced Computing, Energy, Nanotechnology, Web Technologies, and Wireless.

Insights
Insights reports are in-depth multidisciplinary contextual analyses of new technology developments and their implications for global security. Insights provide the framework for understanding the power and global impact of the innovations published in our Tech Highlights profiles.
